About this deal

I could have it modified to weld one on I guess but it would have been a little messy as that bolt hole in the chassis for the centre mount is right where my silencer clamp and lambda boss are. I pivoted the mounting bracket a little and carefully aligned the exhaust to ensure that the two brackets were exactly parallel, which is alwaya a good idea using the original bobbin too. The key to getting a reasonable life out of them was to set them up so that there is minimal strain on the bobbin. Yep as every body has said the very rear should have 2 of those rubber bobbins at the rear with preferably a metal bar bewteen the two that they hang from this metal bar then just screws directly to the subframe! The engine mounts are very rigid and there's enough length of pipe and available flex between the engine and rear mount that most modes can be discounted I would suggest. Also, having the header or downpipe secured to the differential; having the subframe remounted with solid items on anything newer than MK III cars, and having the engine securely mounted are crucial to mini exhaust longevity. My arches were from Huddersfield too, I got the outer lip trim but nothing for sealing the join between body and arch. I don't know how but I took a knock to my rear exhaust mount pushing it almost parallel with the ground and pretty much folding the bobbin at right angles. Actually, the bobbins and the hanger at the front of the rear subframe are ideal for mounting a mini exhaust.

I was very careful to realign, slot, file, bend, adjust all my mounts to take and stress out of the bobbins as far as possible - ie it looks when installed, nice and straight, not angled between top and bottom, not in shear. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. I'd worry that polyurethane wouldn't have enough 'give' in it and would strain the exhaust but the machine mount links look good. Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 13:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays).

there should be two rubber bobbins on the rear mount of the exhaust and mid join looks like its just a threaded bar welded to the box.

rubber silencer mounting, RGM carries them, I'm sure Norvil, Hemmings, Andover, Burtons Bits they're rather common. Please remember to add the forward-slash and not to put in any spaces in between the letters and numbers. At the engine end, there's a squiggly section of pipe to take it round the gear linkage box thing, but instead of running along the exhaust channel in the chassis, it kind of hangs underneath it, which is no good. Also, is this something I could conceivably work on myself, or would I be better taking it to an exhaust specialist? I think there's a lot more movement in the engines and exhausts of most tintops than on our cars, and there would normally be multiple points of suspension too. I know I could get a bracket welded to the silencer extending forward but I think it would look mess and I prefer the clean lines of the system as it is. sorry i hadn't heard from you and have sold the kit to a neighbour, although i might have some other bobbins/brackets and hangers that might help you. I'm guessing it needs another mount in the middle of the car, and probably the rear one replaced, but what parts will this involve, and will simply remounting and clamping up sort it? I've got both mounts installed - front and rear of main silencer, Using a Powerspeed unit for the last 12 or so years. or rather, the usual once in a while glance over the whole car showed it to be perishing, so I swopped it. The imperial size may have been true at one point but many motor factors now supply these with a metric thread and nuts to suit (certainly Halfords does). I will be keeping an eye on it and if it does show any sign of movement I'll do something about it - maybe using a 5mm longer bolt and a lock nut under the nyloc to allow me to tighten it positively.

As suggested by 7 Wonders an Aerolock nut or even two nuts locked against each other may be an alternative solution.
