About this deal

Nora: Captain Sauer's second-in-command. She never knew she was the child of a human and a mermaid. A new subplot in the stage musical is a singing competition where the eligible princesses in all the land are invited to sing for Eric. The princesses perform in the song "The Contest", which is set to the tune of Ariel's song "Part of Your World".

Expert Rider: Eric is a highly skilled rider. He can ride horses and command the reigns of a carriage controlled by his horse with relative ease.Eric’s depiction I really liked most of the time though in some cases I didn’t feel as if he was the same guy from the movie which left me feeling disconnected from him. Ariel was the same even though the scenes with her and Eric together are some of my favorite parts and the ones the most well written. The rest of the characters were very generic and I don’t have any opinion on them aside that they were there. There are also several gay and non binary characters who I just felt were thrown in just because. In the 2007 Broadway musical adaptation of the Disney film, the role of Eric was originated by Sean Palmer and notably replaced with Drew Seeley after Palmer's departure. It is explained through dialogue that Eric's father has passed away, and it is Grimsby's duty to help Eric find a bride, so he can return to the throne properly, despite Eric's affinity for exploring the seas. So the problem I ran into with this book isn't the story itself. If I had never seen Little Mermaid or only had a middling opinion of it, this would probably be a 5-star read for me, definitely a full 4 stars.

Big Hero 6: Hiro • Baymax • Fred • Wasabi • Honey Lemon • Go Go Tomago • Tadashi Hamada • Yokai • MochiFinding Nemo: Nemo • Dory • Marlin • Crush • Bruce • Destiny • Bailey • Hank • Squirt • Nigel • Gill • Sheldon • Pearl • Darla • Charlie • Jenny Disney has done some questionable things in the past, but this book is fortunately not one of them. I loved reading Eric's point of view, it is fascinating, and it gives him this beautiful, complex character arc while keeping the same kindness and cheerfulness he has in the original Disney story. I especially love it so much because I see it as canon. It isn't a retelling or some fun addition that doesn't necessarily have to follow the original. On the contrary, the majority of the book is largely based on the movie, with most of the scenes and lines taken directly from it. Besides, even the additional scenes that aren't in the movie directly correlate with it. There are some changes but nothing unappealing. Additionally, the plot is fantastic, and there is so much more world-building and exposition. In the ending credits, Eric and Ariel, having finally become human, are seen getting married in a ceremony gathered with humans and merpeople where they eventually kiss.

Queen Eleanora: Eric's mother, who went out to sea to find answers to Eric's curse in the hope of breaking it, and had gone missing since.I will say though, as a Little Mermaid fan, NONE of these people show up ANYWHERE in the animated film. My appreciation for the diversity outweighs this though, but pause any frame in the movie and you can clearly see there are no characters of color either on the ship's crew -- or anyone who looks anything like a pirate -- or at the wedding. So again, trying to force this in didn't quite work for me, although I fully recognize that's a superficial level/quibble.] Prince Phillip tells his side of Disney's Sleeping Beauty where once upon a dream was just the beginning... Both series: Storybrooke • Maine • Enchanted Forest • Forbidden Fortress • Wonderland • Wonderland Maze • Agrabah • Sherwood Forest • The Sultan's Palace
