Before I bought the well regarded and highly valued Rega Brio-R, I've been mostly listening to amplifiers made by big Japanese companies. Add in large-scale sound, rich with detail and punchy rhythm, and you've got a great budget turntable. Imo i think some people just have unrealistic expectations and do not understand the design filosofi behind some spesilist products. Each turntable is a five-star product in its own right and so is a good starting point if you’re just in the market for a new record player.

Onkyo's A-9010 is a fantastic stereo amplifier for the money and owns a area of the market where there's been a real shortage of talent lately. The sleek and minimal look was designed to bring elegance to Rega’s classic style but still harks back to the swooped features hidden away in Rega’s past amplifiers. That partial-cure was as simple as reversing the leads to the filaments - leading me to believe that the buzz was inductive - which it was. Then to the tonality of the amp; what has been described as musicality and speed, seems to be just over emphasis of higher mid-range frequencies resulting in additional shrillness regardless of the speakers. Despite there being a 40-year gap between the original and current Planar 3, we surmised that if we put the two side-by-side, 'most people would be hard pushed to find any differences beyond the smarter plinth and the updated tonearm'.

A second raw power supply has been added to provide further isolation between output stage and the driver stage/line and phono amplifiers.
