Following the success of NOW 80s, sister channel Chilled TV was retooled as 1990s music station Chilled 90s from March 2017; this channel was then used for NOW Christmas in 2017 (allowing the Christmas format and the 80s station to run simultaneously), before fully rebranded as NOW 90s from 27 December 2017. The channel launched in its current form on 27 December 2016, initially as a temporary pop-up rebrand of Now Music, previously a contemporary pop channel. On 14 May 2010, it started broadcasting in mono at 64kbps on Digital One national DAB digital radio. On 29 February 2016, it upgraded to 80kbps in mono with Sound Digital multiplex, but it continued to broadcast on Digital One until the end of April 2016.In June 2018 availability of NOW 80s was extended to Freeview HD owners in more parts of the country by relocating to the Arqiva COM8 multiplex. Bates has continued to present his old radio feature The Golden Hour as a programme on Now 80s, [14] with some episodes billed as Simon Bates' New Golden Hour and others appearing on Now 70s. Now 90s continued to broadcast to Manchester only, until 26 February 2019, when it was relocated to the COM8 multiplex.
